Call Topic 1 – Continue to Condemn Trump’s Use of National Guard and Military Against Americans.
Trump’s deployment of the National Guard without the consent of California’s governor and without a plan or adequate supplies (see Governer Newsom’s post to the right) is a dangerous and reckless escalation of his authoritarian tactics. US Marines are now told to “detain protesters” until they can be handed off to local law enforcement. This is an outrageous attack on our Democracy and our rights sto assemble and protest these illegal and immoral actions.
Even if you called on this topic yesterday, we all need you to call your elected officials again today!

Call Topic 2 – Oppose Funding Cuts to NPR and PBS
A free and fair/balanced press is essential to our Democracy. The House and Senate are acting on the Administration’s 2025 Recission Bill that reverses already approved funding for NPR and PBS. The Trump administration is calling to starve local National Public Radio (NPR) and Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) stations by demanding $1.1 billion in cuts to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, the entity that disburses funding to public media organizations and local stations throughout the U.S. While this amount is a small percentage of the overall budgets of NPR and PBS, most of the federal funding goes to local member stations to keep news departments afloat and able to produce local programming.

- The non-partisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) has completed a review of the BUB and not surprisingly, their findings show that millions of us will lose coverage and/or have reduced services. Also not surprisingly, the CBO is now the target of the Administration and Republican members of Congress. The bill is fine, they say, it’s the CBO that is the problem. - David Hope of the London School of Economics and Julian Limberg of King’s College London, examined 18 developed countries — from Australia to the United States — over a 50-year period from 1965 to 2015. In this CBS News Economics report, the research showed little to no difference in country’s that provided tax cuts to the wealthy and those that did not. However, it did find that the rich got richer and that income gaps widened where tax cuts were applied. In short, there’s hard evidence that tax cuts for the wealthiest do nothing to help the rest of us. Read the report here.
