When 55 protesters from four different groups showed up in Medford, Taylor County to confront Rep. Tiffany about his healthcare votes, the response from inside the event made national news. A comment — ‘Tell them protesters we got guns here’ — was met with a chuckle from Tiffany, and the moment was captured and shared widely.

The incident was featured in Robert Hubbell’s widely-read national newsletter, and a reporter from The Guardian was present to witness the confrontation firsthand. The story spread across progressive media, putting a spotlight on both the courage of rural protesters and the hostility they sometimes face.

CVI members were among the 55 who stood their ground that day. Their message: we are here, we are watching, and we will not be intimidated.

The Building Unity Bus Tour rolled through the Chippewa Valley from July 6-12, hosting non-partisan potluck gatherings in communities across the region. The concept was simple but powerful: bring people together over food and conversation, no agenda, no speeches — just neighbors getting to know each other.

In a time when it feels like everyone is in their own camp, the Bus Tour created spaces where people could step out and find common ground. The turnout exceeded expectations, with new faces at every stop and conversations that reminded everyone why community matters.

Building unity isn’t a slogan — it’s a practice. And this tour proved that when you create the space, people will show up.

Big news for the messaging front: the Democratic Messaging Project (DMP) is bringing rolling billboard trucks to CD03, running through Eau Claire, La Crosse, and Stevens Point with messaging about the MAGA voting record on healthcare and costs.

The mobile billboards will hit the road in the final weeks before the election, making sure voters in every corner of CD03 know exactly how their representatives voted. Combined with CVI’s existing Bridge Brigade, social media campaigns, and earned media efforts, the rolling billboards add another layer of visibility that is hard to ignore.

This is how you build a messaging machine: layer by layer, platform by platform, until the message is everywhere.

CVI’s Neighbors Helping Neighbors group served 195 guests at Agnes’ Table — our biggest turnout yet. The meal was fried chicken and fish, prepared and served entirely by CVI volunteers who believe that feeding your neighbors is one of the most direct ways to put your values into action.

Agnes’ Table is a monthly community meal in Chippewa Falls, and CVI has become a regular presence. Our volunteers handle everything from cooking to cleanup, and the generosity of CVI members covers the cost of each meal through donations.

CVI showed up to celebrate Juneteenth with our community — this year at the Children’s Museum in Eau Claire after weather moved the event indoors. Our team connected with families, shared resources, and celebrated the ongoing fight for freedom and equality.

Juneteenth is a reminder that the work of liberation is never finished. CVI is proud to stand alongside our neighbors in honoring this history and recommitting to the values of justice and inclusion that drive everything we do.
