UWEC Free Speech Resolution Passes Student Senate

Congratulations to Student Senators Elijah Williams, Quincy Cole, Shivani Saravanan, MJ Henry, Piper Campbell, and Rachel Schulte on the successful passage of their Resolution In Support of Promoting Free Expression, Inclusive Dialogue, and Clear Communication.  After three grueling weeks of delays (first a tornado and then an incredibly long voting process for new leadership), the team was determined to remain strong and defend the rights of UWEC students — and they prevailed. With a final vote of 18–7–3, the resolution passed. Senator Williams is already planning for workshops and training sessions for the fall (with the support of Chippewa Valley Indivisible) to strengthen student awareness and participation in protecting their rights. Senator Elijah Williams will be leading the new UWEC Indivisible Subgroup (that will spin off into its own entity). We’re very excited to these students standing for democracy! CVI members standing in support of the students at the University and on the livestream included Joe Abhold, Rita Erickson, Matthew and Jessi Irwin, Thorsten Landwehr, Alyce Knueppel, Mike Swoboda, Mitzi Anderson, Margaret Behnke, Jennifer and John Cook, Amy Mader-Holzem, Nina Kramer, Mark and Judi Gunderman, Dianna Hansen, Cheryl Friell, and Cyndi Greening.
