Support Postpartum Coverage for Medicaid Patients!
Uninterrupted postpartum care is important both for managing pregnancy related health issues as well as maintaining access to support for mental health treatment, breastfeeding and medication management. Currently Wisconsin Medicaid only covers 60 days of treatment for eligible individuals. Wisconsin is one of only 2 states that has not extended postpartum coverage to 12 months. Senate Bill 23 and Assembly Bill 97 will improve maternal and child health by extending postpartum coverage for eligible Medicaid patients to 12 months. This bill would only affect existing Medicaid patients and does not change eligibility requirements. The State Senate approved this bill nearly unanimously (32-1). The State Assembly has not acted, and Robin Vos has made his disapproval for ANY expansion of Medicaid widely known.
Tell Robin Vos to bring this bill up for a vote, there is broad bipartisan support and failing to expand coverage will harm thousands of Wisconsin mothers and children. Call Robin Vos at 608-237-9133 or email at [email protected].
Locally, most of us in Chippewa and Eau Claire will be in Assembly District 91, 92 or 93:

Hello, my name is [Your Name], and I am a [Wisconsin resident/healthcare professional/concerned citizen]. I’m calling today to urge [Assembly Member’s Name] to support Senate Bill 23, which extends Medicaid coverage for postpartum mothers from 60 days to a full year.
This bill is critical for ensuring that new mothers in Wisconsin receive the healthcare they need during the postpartum period. About 30% of pregnancy-related deaths occur between 43 and 365 days postpartum, and tragically 76% of those who died had Medicaid at the time of delivery. Extending coverage will help prevent unnecessary health complications and save lives.
This bill has already passed the Senate with overwhelming bipartisan support. Now, it’s time for the Assembly to act. I urge [Assembly Member’s Name] to pressure Speaker Vos to bring this bill to the Assembly. Encourage him to do the right thing for Wisconsin families and bring this to a vote.
Thank you
